Description: The African Dwarf Frog is a fully aquatic amphibian with a slender, smooth body and webbed feet. Typically, olive to brown in color, they have a subtle, mottled pattern for camouflage. These frogs are popular for their unique appearance and interesting swimming behavior, often gliding gently through the water.

Size: Up to 2.5 inches (6.4 cm)

Aquarium Size: A minimum of 10 gallons is recommended for a small group of African Dwarf Frogs. A larger tank helps maintain water quality and provides ample space for their active swimming.

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 72°F to 78°F (22°C to 26°C)

  • pH: 6.5 to 7.5

  • Hardness: Soft to moderate

Temperament: Peaceful and non-aggressive, African Dwarf Frogs can be kept in groups of their own kind. They are shy and may be outcompeted for food by faster fish.

Group Size: African Dwarf Frogs thrive in groups of 3 to 5 individuals. Keeping them in groups helps reduce stress and encourages natural behaviors.

Compatibility: African Dwarf Frogs can be kept with small, peaceful fish such as tetras, rasboras, and corydoras catfish. Avoid housing with aggressive or nippy species. They can be kept with larger invertebrates like snails but may prey on small shrimp.

Diet: Carnivorous. They require a diet of protein-based foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and sinking pellets designed for amphibians.

Care Level: Beginner to Intermediate. Care must be taken to ensure proper feeding and water quality, as they can be sensitive to poor conditions.

Planted Aquarium: African Dwarf Frogs can be kept in a planted aquarium. Live plants help maintain water quality and provide natural cover, making the frogs feel more secure.

Additional Notes: Ensure the tank is fully covered, as African Dwarf Frogs are known for escaping through small openings. They are fully aquatic but must surface to breathe air.
