Description:
The Chili Rasbora is a tiny, brilliantly colored freshwater fish known for its vibrant red body with a dark horizontal stripe running from head to tail. Its small size and bold coloration make it a favorite choice for nano aquariums. These peaceful fish thrive in well-maintained planted tanks with calm environments.

Size:
Up to 0.8 inches (2 cm)

Aquarium Size:
A minimum of 5 gallons is suitable for a small group, though a 10-gallon or larger tank is recommended for larger schools and better water stability.

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 72°F to 82°F (22°C to 28°C)

  • pH: 5.0 to 7.0

  • Hardness: Soft

Temperament:
Chili Rasboras are peaceful community fish. They are very timid and do best in calm aquariums with gentle tankmates and minimal water flow.

Group Size:
Best kept in groups of 8 or more. Larger groups help reduce stress and encourage natural schooling behavior.

Compatibility:
Chili Rasboras are ideal for nano community setups and can be kept with other peaceful species such as ember tetras, celestial pearl danios, and pygmy corydoras. Avoid keeping them with larger or boisterous species that may intimidate or outcompete them for food.

Diet:
Carnivorous micro-predators. They prefer live or frozen foods such as baby brine shrimp, daphnia, and microworms but will also accept high-quality micro pellets and crushed flakes.

Care Level:
Beginner to Intermediate. They are hardy but require stable water parameters and proper care to maintain their delicate appearance.

Planted Aquarium:
Chili Rasboras thrive in heavily planted aquariums. Plants provide shelter, help maintain water quality, and highlight their vibrant colors.

Invertebrate Compatibility:
They can be kept with peaceful invertebrates such as shrimp and snails. Due to their small size, they pose no threat to most invertebrates.

Lid Recommendation:
A secure lid is recommended as they can be prone to jumping, especially when startled or during schooling activity.

Additional Notes:
Chili Rasboras prefer dim lighting and dark substrates, which help enhance their coloration. They thrive in tanks with leaf litter and botanicals that replicate their natural blackwater habitat.
