Description:
The Electric Blue Ram is a stunning freshwater cichlid admired for its intense, shimmering blue coloration. Its compact, oval body is highlighted by electric blue scales with hints of red or orange near the face and fins. This dwarf cichlid adds a brilliant pop of color to any community aquarium and is known for its peaceful nature compared to other cichlids.

Size:
Up to 2.5 inches (6 cm)

Aquarium Size:
A minimum of 20 gallons is recommended for a pair of Electric Blue Rams. Larger tanks are preferred if keeping multiple pairs or for community setups.

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 78°F to 85°F (26°C to 29°C)

  • pH: 6.0 to 7.5

  • Hardness: Soft to moderate

Temperament:
Electric Blue Rams are generally peaceful community fish but can become semi-aggressive during breeding. They do best in calm aquariums with non-aggressive tankmates.

Group Size:
Best kept singly, as a bonded pair, or in a carefully planned community. If housing multiple pairs, ensure the aquarium is large enough to allow separate territories.

Compatibility:
Electric Blue Rams can be kept with other peaceful fish such as tetras, rasboras, corydoras catfish, and otocinclus. Avoid fin-nippers and larger aggressive species, as the Rams may be easily intimidated.

Diet:
Omnivorous. They thrive on a varied diet of high-quality micro pellets, flakes, frozen foods such as brine shrimp and bloodworms, and occasional live foods. A protein-rich diet helps maintain their vibrant colors.

Care Level:
Intermediate. Electric Blue Rams require pristine water conditions with low nitrates and stable parameters, making them better suited for more experienced aquarists.

Planted Aquarium:
Electric Blue Rams can be kept in planted aquariums. Plants help provide shelter and reduce stress while enhancing the fish’s vibrant colors. A soft substrate is recommended as they may sift through it while foraging.

Invertebrate Compatibility:
Not ideal for tanks with small shrimp species, as they may prey on them. Larger snails are generally safe.

Additional Notes:
Electric Blue Rams are sensitive to water quality and thrive in well-maintained tanks with low nitrate levels. They are known for their fascinating breeding behaviors, with pairs often becoming protective when guarding eggs or fry.
