Description:
The Moscow Blue Guppy is a stunning guppy variety known for its deep, iridescent blue-black coloration. The body and flowing caudal fin display a velvety, metallic sheen with hints of purple and blue under the right lighting. Its large, fan-like tail and smooth, solid coloring make it a captivating choice for aquarists seeking a dramatic centerpiece fish.

Size:
Up to 2 inches (5 cm)

Aquarium Size:
A minimum of 10 gallons is recommended for a small group, with larger tanks preferred for mixed groups and breeding colonies.

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 72°F to 82°F (22°C to 28°C)

  • pH: 6.8 to 7.8

  • Hardness: Moderate to hard

Temperament:
Moscow Blue Guppies are peaceful community fish. Males may occasionally display mild competitive behavior toward each other when kept in groups but are generally non-aggressive.

Group Size:
Best kept in groups of 6 or more. A ratio of 1 male to 2-3 females is recommended when keeping mixed groups to reduce stress and excessive breeding.

Compatibility:
Ideal tankmates include other peaceful community species such as tetras, rasboras, corydoras catfish, and other livebearers. Avoid aggressive or fin-nipping species that could damage their delicate fins.

Diet:
Omnivorous. They thrive on a varied diet including high-quality guppy flakes, micro pellets, and frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp and daphnia. Occasional vegetable-based foods can also be offered for balanced nutrition.

Care Level:
Beginner. Moscow Blue Guppies are hardy and adaptable, making them an excellent choice for novice aquarists.

Planted Aquarium:
Moscow Blue Guppies thrive in planted aquariums. The plants provide cover, reduce stress, and help accentuate their deep blue coloration while contributing to water quality.

Invertebrate Compatibility:
Safe with peaceful invertebrates such as snails and larger shrimp species. Small shrimp fry may be at risk of predation.

Additional Notes:
Moscow Blue Guppies are livebearers, giving birth to free-swimming fry. If breeding is not desired, consider keeping only males or providing plenty of plant cover for fry survival. Their flowing fins make them more susceptible to fin damage, so avoid aggressive species in the same tank.
