Description:
The Silver Tip Tetra is a small, vibrant schooling fish known for its shimmering golden body and distinctive silver-white tips on its fins. This active and energetic species adds constant movement and a beautiful shimmer to community aquariums. Males tend to have a slightly deeper golden hue than females, especially during spawning conditions.

Size:
Up to 2 inches (5 cm)

Aquarium Size:
A minimum of 15 gallons is recommended for a small school, with larger tanks preferred for bigger groups.

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 72°F to 82°F (22°C to 28°C)

  • pH: 6.0 to 7.5

  • Hardness: Soft to moderate

Temperament:
Silver Tip Tetras are peaceful but can be slightly boisterous, especially when kept in small groups. In larger schools, their behavior becomes calmer as they focus on schooling rather than fin-nipping.

Group Size:
Best kept in groups of 8 or more to reduce stress and aggression while encouraging natural schooling behavior.

Compatibility:
Silver Tip Tetras can be kept with other peaceful community fish such as rasboras, corydoras catfish, other tetras, and small gouramis. Avoid slow-moving or long-finned species, as their playful behavior can occasionally lead to fin-nipping.

Diet:
Omnivorous. They thrive on high-quality flakes, micro pellets, and frozen foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. Occasional live foods can enhance their coloration and activity.

Care Level:
Beginner. Silver Tip Tetras are hardy and suitable for novice aquarists but require stable water conditions for optimal health.

Planted Aquarium:
Silver Tip Tetras thrive in planted aquariums, where plants provide cover and help reduce stress. Their reflective colors stand out beautifully against lush greenery.

Invertebrate Compatibility:
Generally safe with larger shrimp and snails, though very small shrimp fry could be at risk due to their opportunistic feeding habits.

Additional Notes:
Silver Tip Tetras are fast swimmers and enjoy moderate water flow. Their vibrant colors and energetic schooling behavior make them an excellent choice for a dynamic community setup.
