Description:
The Blue Cobra Guppy is a striking guppy variety known for its vibrant blue coloration, intricate cobra-like pattern on the body, and flowing tail fins. This small, peaceful fish adds a splash of color to community aquariums and is popular among beginner and experienced aquarists alike.
Size:
Up to 2 inches (5 cm)
Aquarium Size:
A minimum of 10 gallons is recommended for a small group, though larger tanks are preferred for bigger colonies and improved water stability.
Water Parameters:
-
Temperature: 72°F to 82°F (22°C to 28°C)
-
pH: 6.8 to 7.8
-
Hardness: Moderate to Hard
Temperament:
Blue Cobra Guppies are peaceful community fish. Males may occasionally display minor aggression toward each other, especially when competing for mates, but this is typically mild.
Group Size:
Best kept in groups of 6 or more. A male-to-female ratio of 1:2 or 1:3 is recommended to reduce stress on females and balance behavior.
Compatibility:
Blue Cobra Guppies are ideal for peaceful community tanks and can be kept with species such as tetras, rasboras, corydoras catfish, and other livebearers. Avoid keeping them with aggressive or fin-nipping species.
Diet:
Omnivorous. They thrive on high-quality guppy flakes, micro pellets, and frozen foods such as daphnia and brine shrimp. Occasional vegetable matter like blanched spinach can also be offered.
Care Level:
Beginner. Guppies are hardy but benefit from stable water conditions and regular maintenance for optimal health and coloration.
Planted Aquarium:
Blue Cobra Guppies are excellent for planted aquariums. Live plants provide cover, reduce stress, and help maintain water quality.
Invertebrate Compatibility:
Safe with most invertebrates such as snails and shrimp. However, very small shrimp fry could be preyed upon.
Lid Recommendation:
A secure lid is recommended, as guppies are known jumpers, especially when startled or during breeding activity.
Additional Notes:
Guppies are livebearers and breed readily in home aquariums. If breeding is not desired, consider keeping only males or providing hiding spots for fry to prevent predation.
