Description:
Behavior: The Burgess' Butterflyfish, also known as the Black Pyramid Butterflyfish, is a relatively peaceful and active species. These fish are generally non-aggressive and can coexist well with other peaceful tankmates. They thrive in well-structured environments with plenty of hiding spots and live rock to explore.
Color: The Burgess' Butterflyfish is visually striking, featuring a predominantly white body with three bold black diagonal bands running vertically across the body. The dorsal and anal fins are accented with bright yellow edges, adding a touch of vibrant color to their elegant appearance.
Diet: Burgess' Butterflyfish are omnivores with a preference for a varied diet. In captivity, they thrive on a mix of high-quality frozen foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. They will also accept high-quality flake food and pellets. Supplementing their diet with marine algae and sponges can help mimic their natural diet and promote optimal health.
Tankmates: Burgess' Butterflyfish are generally peaceful and can be housed with a variety of other non-aggressive marine species. Suitable tankmates include tangs, gobies, clownfish, and other peaceful butterflyfish. Avoid housing them with overly aggressive species that may intimidate them or compete for food.
Reef Aquarium Compatibility: Burgess' Butterflyfish are considered reef-safe with caution. While they generally do not harm corals, they may occasionally nip at soft corals and sessile invertebrates. Monitoring their behavior and ensuring they are well-fed can help minimize the risk of unwanted coral nipping.
Max Size: Burgess' Butterflyfish can grow up to 5.5 inches (14 cm) in length. Due to their size and active nature, they require a spacious aquarium of at least 75 gallons to thrive and maintain good water quality.
Origin: Burgess' Butterflyfish are commonly found in the Western Pacific Ocean, particularly around the waters of the Philippines, Indonesia, and the Great Barrier Reef.
Sexual Dimorphism: Burgess' Butterflyfish do not exhibit significant sexual dimorphism, making it difficult to distinguish males from females based solely on appearance.
