Behavior: The Cuban Hogfish is a bold and active species known for its vibrant colors and dynamic behavior. These fish are semi-aggressive and can be territorial, especially towards other smaller or similar species. They thrive in well-structured environments with plenty of hiding spots and open swimming areas. Cuban Hogfish are known to be excellent jumpers, so a secure lid on the aquarium is essential.

Color: The Cuban Hogfish is visually striking, featuring a vibrant mix of colors. Juveniles are bright yellow with a horizontal blue stripe along their body. As they mature, their coloration changes to a deep red to orange body with distinctive yellow markings on their fins.

Diet: Cuban Hogfish are carnivores and thrive on a varied diet rich in protein. They do well on a mix of high-quality frozen foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, krill, and finely chopped seafood. They will also accept high-quality flake food and pellets. Providing a varied diet helps maintain their health and vibrant coloration.

Tankmates: Cuban Hogfish can be somewhat territorial and should be housed with other robust and similarly sized fish. Suitable tankmates include larger tangs, angelfish, wrasses, and groupers. Avoid housing them with very small or timid fish that may be intimidated or outcompeted for food.

Reef Aquarium Compatibility: Cuban Hogfish are generally considered reef-safe, but they may pose a risk to smaller invertebrates such as shrimp and crabs. They do not typically harm corals, making them suitable for larger reef tanks where their behavior can be monitored.

Max Size: Cuban Hogfish can grow up to 10 inches (25 cm) in length. Due to their size and active nature, they require a spacious aquarium of at least 125 gallons to thrive and maintain good water quality.

Origin: Cuban Hogfish are commonly found in the Western Atlantic Ocean, particularly around the waters of the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico.
