Galaxy Rasbora (Celestial Pearl Danio) (Danio margaritatus)
Description:
The Galaxy Rasbora, also known as the Celestial Pearl Danio, is a stunning freshwater fish prized for its galaxy-like appearance. Its dark body is speckled with pearl-like white spots, while the fins are accented with vibrant red and orange hues, making it one of the most visually captivating nano fish available. This peaceful schooling species adds elegance and movement to planted aquariums.
Size:
Up to 1 inch (2.5 cm)
Aquarium Size:
A minimum of 10 gallons is recommended for a small group, though larger tanks are preferred for larger schools and better stability.
Water Parameters:
-
Temperature: 72°F to 78°F (22°C to 26°C)
-
pH: 6.5 to 7.5
-
Hardness: Soft to moderate
Temperament:
Galaxy Rasboras are peaceful community fish. They can be shy in small numbers but become more confident when kept in proper groups.
Group Size:
Best kept in groups of 8 or more. Larger schools help reduce stress and encourage natural schooling behavior while enhancing their colors.
Compatibility:
Galaxy Rasboras can be kept with other peaceful species such as ember tetras, chili rasboras, pygmy corydoras, and small shrimp. Avoid aggressive or large fish that may intimidate them.
Diet:
Omnivorous. They thrive on a varied diet of high-quality micro pellets, flakes, and frozen or live foods such as baby brine shrimp, daphnia, and micro worms.
Care Level:
Beginner to Intermediate. They are hardy but prefer stable water conditions and gentle filtration.
Planted Aquarium:
Galaxy Rasboras are ideal for heavily planted aquariums. Plants provide cover, reduce stress, and create a natural backdrop that enhances their vibrant coloration.
Invertebrate Compatibility:
Safe with peaceful invertebrates such as snails and larger shrimp. However, they may prey on very small shrimp fry.
Additional Notes:
Galaxy Rasboras prefer a well-structured tank with plants, driftwood, and gentle filtration. Their small size makes them ideal for nano aquariums, but they still require proper group sizes to thrive.
