The Gold Stripe Maroon Clownfish is a bold and eye-catching species, renowned for its deep maroon body contrasted by striking golden-yellow stripes. As the fish matures, its white stripes gradually develop into a rich golden hue, creating a stunning display of color. This species is one of the largest and most territorial of the clownfish family, making it a centerpiece for marine aquariums.
Care Requirements:
The Gold Stripe Maroon Clownfish thrives in aquariums of at least 30 gallons, with larger tanks preferred if housing with other fish due to its territorial nature. Provide plenty of live rock for shelter and to establish territories. While it doesn’t require an anemone to thrive, it readily forms symbiotic relationships with anemones such as Entacmaea quadricolor (Bubble Tip Anemone).
Diet:
An omnivore, this clownfish enjoys a varied diet of high-quality marine pellets, flakes, and frozen foods like mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Supplement its diet with spirulina or marine algae to enhance coloration and support overall health.
Temperament:
The Gold Stripe Maroon Clownfish is known for its semi-aggressive to aggressive temperament, especially as it matures and establishes its territory. It’s best kept singly or as a bonded pair, as it can be highly territorial toward other clownfish and even similarly sized tankmates. Caution is advised when introducing new fish to its environment.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef Safe. The Gold Stripe Maroon Clownfish coexists well with corals and invertebrates, though it may rearrange coral frags or rockwork when exhibiting hosting or territorial behaviors.
Compatibility:
Best kept with other semi-aggressive or large, robust fish that can tolerate its dominant nature. Avoid housing with other clownfish species unless the tank is exceptionally large. When pairing, it’s recommended to introduce a significantly smaller male to reduce aggression during bonding.
