Description:

Behavior: The Lunar Wrasse, also known as the Moon Wrasse, is an active and bold species known for its striking coloration and dynamic swimming behavior. These fish are generally semi-aggressive and can become territorial, especially towards smaller tankmates. They thrive in well-structured environments with plenty of rocks, caves, and open swimming areas.

Color: The Lunar Wrasse is visually stunning, featuring a body adorned with vibrant shades of blue, green, and yellow. Their coloration is highlighted by bold, horizontal blue lines running along their body and a distinctive crescent-shaped tail fin. Juveniles and adults exhibit similar color patterns, with juveniles often displaying more intense coloration.

Diet: Lunar Wrasses are carnivores and thrive on a varied diet rich in protein. They do well on a mix of high-quality frozen foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, krill, and finely chopped seafood. They will also accept high-quality flake food and pellets. Providing a varied diet helps maintain their health and vibrant coloration.

Tankmates: Lunar Wrasses can be somewhat territorial and should be housed with other robust and similarly sized fish. Suitable tankmates include larger tangs, angelfish, wrasses, and groupers. Avoid housing them with very small or timid fish that may be intimidated or outcompeted for food. They should not be kept with small invertebrates, as they may prey on shrimp and other small crustaceans.

Reef Aquarium Compatibility: Lunar Wrasses are generally not considered reef-safe, as they may pose a risk to smaller invertebrates such as shrimp and crabs. They do not typically harm corals, but their foraging behavior can disturb the substrate and potentially disrupt delicate organisms.

Max Size: Lunar Wrasses can grow up to 10 inches (25 cm) in length. Due to their size and active nature, they require a spacious aquarium of at least 125 gallons to thrive and maintain good water quality.

Origin: Lunar Wrasses are commonly found in the Indo-Pacific region, particularly around the waters of the Great Barrier Reef, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

Sexual Dimorphism: Lunar Wrasses do not exhibit significant sexual dimorphism, making it difficult to distinguish males from females based solely on appearance.
