Maculosus Angelfish (Pomacanthus maculosus)

Description:

Behavior: The Maculosus Angelfish, also known as the Yellowbar Angelfish or Map Angelfish, is a large and stunning species known for its vibrant coloration and bold personality. These fish are generally semi-aggressive and can become territorial, especially towards other angelfish. They thrive in well-structured environments with plenty of hiding spots and open swimming areas.

Color: The Maculosus Angelfish is visually striking, featuring a body adorned with a deep blue to purplish coloration and a distinctive bright yellow bar running vertically across the midsection. Juveniles display a more intricate pattern with white and blue horizontal stripes, which change as they mature into adults.

Diet: Maculosus Angelfish are omnivores and thrive on a varied diet. They do well on a mix of high-quality flake food, pellets, and frozen foods such as brine shrimp and mysis shrimp. Including marine algae or spirulina in their diet helps maintain their health and vibrant coloration. Providing a varied diet helps maintain their health and vibrant coloration.

Tankmates: Maculosus Angelfish can be semi-aggressive and should be housed with other robust and similarly sized fish. Suitable tankmates include larger tangs, other angelfish, wrasses, and groupers. Ensure that algae and other food are not lacking to minimize aggression problems.

Reef Aquarium Compatibility: Maculosus Angelfish are generally not considered reef-safe, as they may pose a risk to corals and invertebrates. Max Size: Maculosus Angelfish can grow up to 18 inches (45 cm) in length. Due to their large size and active nature, they require a spacious aquarium of at least 180 gallons to thrive and maintain good water quality.

Origin: Maculosus Angelfish are commonly found in the Western Indian Ocean, particularly around the waters of the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf.
