Maine Mocha Clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris)
The Maine Mocha Clownfish is a stunning designer variant of the Ocellaris Clownfish, prized for its rich, warm coloration that resembles a blend of dark chocolate and vibrant orange. Its body features a beautiful gradient of mocha-brown hues with striking dark-edged fins and unique, variable patterns. This designer clownfish is not only eye-catching but also hardy, making it an excellent choice for both beginner and experienced aquarists.
Care Requirements:
The Maine Mocha Clownfish thrives in aquariums of at least 20 gallons with plenty of live rock for shelter and territory establishment. It adapts well to both reef and fish-only tanks and does not require an anemone to thrive. However, it may host anemones such as Entacmaea quadricolor (Bubble Tip Anemone) if provided.
Diet:
An omnivore, this clownfish enjoys a varied diet of high-quality marine pellets, flakes, and frozen foods like mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Supplement its diet with spirulina or marine algae to enhance its vibrant coloration and support overall health.
Temperament:
The Maine Mocha Clownfish has a peaceful to semi-aggressive temperament, especially when establishing its territory. It can be kept singly, in mated pairs, or with other peaceful community fish. Like most clownfish, it may become territorial, particularly during breeding or in smaller tanks.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef Safe. The Maine Mocha Clownfish is safe with corals and invertebrates, making it an ideal choice for reef aquariums. It may occasionally rearrange soft corals when exhibiting hosting behavior in the absence of an anemone.
Compatibility:
Compatible with other peaceful fish and invertebrates. It can be housed with other designer clownfish varieties in larger tanks, though territorial disputes may arise. Avoid mixing with overly aggressive species that may harass or outcompete it for food.
