Multibar Angel (Paracentropyge multifasciata)

Description:

Behavior: The Multibar Angel, also known as the Multibarred Angelfish or Many Banded Angelfish, is a shy and reclusive species known for its distinctive vertical stripes and peaceful nature. These fish are generally non-aggressive and can coexist well with other peaceful tankmates. They thrive in well-structured environments with plenty of live rock, caves, and hiding spots to help them feel secure. Due to their delicate nature, they are considered an expert-level fish and can be challenging to care for, particularly in terms of diet and acclimation.

Color: The Multibar Angel is visually striking, featuring a body adorned with multiple vertical black bars on a white background, giving them their name. Their pectoral fins are typically yellow, adding a splash of color to their elegant appearance. Juveniles and adults exhibit similar color patterns, with adults sometimes displaying more pronounced coloration.

Diet: Multibar Angels are omnivores but can be very finicky eaters. They thrive on a varied diet that includes high-quality flake food, pellets, and frozen foods such as brine shrimp and mysis shrimp. Including marine algae, spirulina, and sponge-based foods in their diet is essential to meet their nutritional needs. Getting them to eat can be very difficult, especially after shipping, so it is crucial to provide a wide variety of foods to entice them.

Tankmates: Multibar Angels are generally peaceful and can be housed with a variety of other non-aggressive marine species. Suitable tankmates include clownfish, gobies, tangs, and other peaceful fish. Avoid housing them with overly aggressive species that may intimidate them or compete for food. This fish can be kept with other angelfish of the same genus. It is advisable to introduce them all at the same time to an appropriately sized aquarium, usually 5 feet or longer. Ensure that algae and other food are not lacking to minimize aggression problems.

Reef Aquarium Compatibility: Multibar Angels are generally considered reef-safe with caution. While they do not typically harm corals, they may occasionally nip at soft corals and sponges. Their behavior can disturb the substrate, so careful monitoring is required when adding them to a reef aquarium.

Max Size: Multibar Angels can grow up to 4 inches (10 cm) in length. Due to their small size and reclusive nature, they require a spacious aquarium of at least 30 gallons to thrive and maintain good water quality.

Origin: Multibar Angels are commonly found in the Western Pacific region, particularly around the waters of Indonesia, the Philippines, and the Great Barrier Reef.

Sexual Dimorphism: Multibar Angels do not exhibit significant sexual dimorphism, making it difficult to distinguish males from females based solely on appearance.
