The Yellow Assessor is a peaceful and hardy reef fish known for its vibrant golden-yellow coloration and unique ability to swim upside down under rock ledges and caves. This species is an excellent choice for reef aquariums due to its calm nature and adaptability. Unlike many small reef fish, it is not overly shy and will often be seen hovering near rock formations.
Size:
Grows to a maximum size of approximately 3 inches.
Aquarium Size:
A minimum tank size of 20 gallons is recommended, though larger aquariums provide more space for natural behaviors.
Temperament:
Peaceful and well-suited for community aquariums. Unlike some basslets, the Yellow Assessor is less aggressive toward tankmates and can even be kept in small groups if introduced at the same time.
Reef Compatibility:
Completely reef-safe and will not harm corals or invertebrates, making it a perfect addition to reef aquariums.
Diet:
Thrives on a varied diet, including frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and high-quality marine pellets. It will also accept finely chopped seafood and other protein-rich foods.
Tank Setup & Care:
- Prefers aquariums with plenty of rockwork for hiding and perching.
- Can often be found swimming upside down under ledges and caves.
- Does well in peaceful reef tanks with similarly non-aggressive tankmates.
