Yellow Banded Possum Wrasse (Wetmorella nigropinnata)

The Yellow Banded Possum Wrasse, also known as the Sharpnose Wrasse, is a striking and peaceful addition to any reef aquarium. This small, secretive wrasse showcases an elongated body with vibrant yellow bands that contrast beautifully against its reddish-brown base color. Its unique, slender snout is perfect for picking small invertebrates from rock crevices, making it an interesting fish to observe.

Care Requirements:
The Yellow Banded Possum Wrasse thrives in a well-established aquarium of at least 20 gallons, with plenty of live rock for hiding and foraging. They prefer a peaceful environment with minimal aggressive tankmates. A secure lid is essential as this species is known to jump.

Diet:
In the wild, they feed on small crustaceans and zooplankton. In captivity, they readily accept a varied diet of frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality marine pellets designed for carnivorous fish. Frequent small feedings will help maintain their health.

Temperament:
This wrasse is peaceful and well-suited for reef tanks. It rarely bothers corals or invertebrates, making it an excellent choice for reef aquariums. It can be shy, especially when first introduced, but becomes more active over time.

Reef Compatibility:
Reef safe. The Yellow Banded Possum Wrasse does not harm corals and generally leaves ornamental shrimp and crabs alone, though very tiny invertebrates may be at risk.

Compatibility:
It does well with other peaceful fish but may be outcompeted for food by more aggressive eaters. Avoid housing it with large, predatory species. This fish can be kept with other wrasses of the same genus if introduced simultaneously to a spacious tank with plenty of hiding spots.
