Description:
Behavior: The Zebra Dartfish, also known as the Zebra Goby or Bar Goby, is a peaceful and active species known for its striking coloration and schooling behavior. These fish are generally non-aggressive and can coexist well with other peaceful tankmates. They thrive in well-structured environments with plenty of live rock, caves, and open swimming areas. Zebra Dartfish are known for their tendency to form schools and their constant swimming in the mid to upper levels of the aquarium.
Color: The Zebra Dartfish is visually stunning, featuring a slender body with alternating bands of black and white, resembling the stripes of a zebra. This unique pattern provides a beautiful contrast, making this fish a standout in any marine aquarium. Juveniles and adults exhibit similar color patterns, with the intensity of the stripes becoming more pronounced as they mature.
Diet: Zebra Dartfish are omnivores and thrive on a varied diet. They do well on a mix of high-quality flake food, pellets, and frozen foods such as brine shrimp and mysis shrimp. Providing a varied diet helps maintain their health and vibrant coloration. Regular feedings are important to keep them healthy and active.
Tankmates: Zebra Dartfish are generally peaceful and can be housed with a variety of other non-aggressive marine species. Suitable tankmates include clownfish, gobies, tangs, and other peaceful fish. Avoid housing them with overly aggressive species that may intimidate them or compete for food. Their peaceful nature and tendency to school make them a good addition to community tanks.
Reef Aquarium Compatibility: Zebra Dartfish are reef-safe and do not harm corals or invertebrates. Their schooling behavior and active swimming add dynamic movement and visual appeal to the tank. They thrive in reef environments where they can find plenty of hiding spots and open spaces to swim.
Max Size: Zebra Dartfish can grow up to 4 inches (10 cm) in length. Due to their active nature and need for swimming space, they require a spacious aquarium of at least 30 gallons to thrive and maintain good water quality.
Origin: Zebra Dartfish are commonly found in the Indo-Pacific region, particularly around the waters of the Great Barrier Reef, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
Sexual Dimorphism: Zebra Dartfish do not exhibit significant sexual dimorphism, making it difficult to distinguish males from females based solely on appearance.
